I'm not sure about the weight it holds, but definitely strong enough to hang dry lingerie, tops and dresses. It is very study and collapses for easy storage when not in use without taking much space at all. GREAT PURCHASE!!

Yes, it does fold down when not in use. I've never tested the weight, I use it to hang clothes on when they come out of the dryer. I have it completely full with no problems
